Michael Dennis Moellering

Michael Dennis Moellering of Florissant, Missouri, was welcomed into the comforting arms of his heavenly parents, Frank and Myrtle Moellering, on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the age of 64. "Mike" was a brother, uncle, great uncle and a friend to many. He was a kind and gentle man whose greatest accomplishment was the unwavering love and compassion for his family and friends. From an early age, Mike embraced all types of sports. From the time of being recruited by the major leagues in high school as a baseball catcher to enjoying a successful bird hunt or a golf match, his happiest moments were being outdoors. He always enjoyed a spirited game of pinochle at the table of family and friends, too. Mike's accomplishments and friendships didn't stop with sports, either. Alongside of completing his degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, he formed many lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers at Phi Kappa Theta, which remained treasured to this day. After college, Mike took his degree into the workforce, where he became the youngest senior melter in Granite City Steel's long history. His career in metallurgy continued at Olin Corporation in the Wichester division, until he chose to retire at the age of 62. After his retirement in a longstanding career as an engineer, Mike stayed active by working part-time at a local Handyman Hardware store. Although Mike was a man of few words, his countless acts of kindness and generosity touched many lives and will continue to do so for years to come. He is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Cunniff (John), Diane Oakley (Jim), Janet Martineau, Brenda Burke and brother Donald "Rocky" Moellering; his nieces and nephews - Michael Cunniff (Katie), Kate Cunniff, Annie Martineau, Lauren Litwiller (Mark), Alicia Martineau, Becky Oakley, Nick Oakley, Daniel Martineau, Katie Burke and Brian Burke; his great nieces and nephews - Mary Kate Cunniff, Madelynn Cunniff, Tommy Cunniff and Oscar Litwiller. Services: Memorial Visitation Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 4-7pm followed by a 7pm Memorial Service at Hutchens Mortuary and Cremation Center, 675 Graham Rd., Florissant, MO. Interment private.
