Marilyn Ann Swanson

MARILYN ANN SWANSON (nee Fordice) 81 years, of Hazelwood, MO, lost her five year challenge with cancer on Sat., March 28, 2009 at home with her family. Marilyn was born in Russellvile, IN on Dec. 20, 1927, the only child of the late Dr. Robert N. Fordice and Lena Lenore (nee Morriss) Rucker Felker. She was raised in Macon, MO by her maternal grandparents, Walter Clyde Morriss and Stella (nee Quig), where she was a Class of 1945 graduate of Macon High School. In researching her ancestry, Marilyn discovered her fraternal lineage dated back to 1630's Northern Ireland when her great-great-great-great grandfather John Fordyce, who was Scoth-Irish, emigrated from County Antrim, Ireland to North America. She married her former husband, Marvin L. Swanson, June 28, 1947 and he predeceased her Sept. 15, 1995. Marilyn leaves three children, Donald L. Swanson and wife Sherry of Lake St. Louis, MO, David E. Swanson and friend, Jenica Renee of Austin, TX, and Charlotte Ann Swanson of Florissant, MO; one grandchild, Aaron E. Swanson of Foley, MO; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Kevin Swanson of Huntsville, AL; step-grandchildren, Jill (nee Horlacher) Gansman, deceased 16 March 2002 and Dan Gansman of Foristell, MO, David R. Horlacher of Costa Mesa, CA, Paige E. Kelleher and Brian of Wentzville, MO; step- great-grandchildren, Alex Swanson of Huntsville, AL, Holly and Caitlin Gansman of Foristell, MO, Zane , Beck, Piper and Penn Kelleher of Wentzville, MO. She will be remembered by her many friends of the Hazelnuts of Hazelwood, MO, her bridge club members and her beloved pet, Buttons, the feisty bob-tailed cat. All who knew Marilyn remeber her as a kind, loving and caring mother, wife, co-worker and friend, retiring in 1994 from C.P. Clare. During her lifetime she was affiliated with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and the Hazelnuts Retiree Club. She was an avid bridge and domino player; enjoyed the creative adventures of painting, craftwork, genealogy and relished the experience of mastering the art of cooking. Services: Visitation 10-11 a.m., Tues., March 31 with service at 11 a.m. at HUTCHENS Mortuary, 675 Graham Rd., Florissant. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery.
