LaVerne Ann Montrey

MONTREY. LaVERNE ANN, 84, of Hazelwood, Missouri died June 12, 2011, at her son's home, surrounded by family. She was born July 14, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Bessie and John Milzark. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. On October11 1952, she married James Ted Montrey, who predeceased her in September 2002. During WWII, LaVerne worked as a civilian secretary for the Naval Air Station at the them St. Louis Municipal Airport. After her marriage, she worked for 35 years at Montrey's Reataurant and Tavern, which she co-owned with her husband until their retirement in 1991. She spent many of her retirement years caring for her husband during a lengthy illness. LaVerne was a strong, compaisionate woman who loved her family. She encouraged hard work, taught the value of education, and instilled self-confidence in her children and grand-children. She managed to accomplish all with humor, style and unconditional love. LaVerne is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Diane Zoellner of Battle Creek, Michigan; daughter and son-in-law, Jill Montrey and Robert Enzenauer, Of Denver, CO.; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Montrey and Gregg Goehler, daughter, Mary Montrey; grandchildren Danielle Zoellner-Kelly of Pendleton, SC, Gene Zoellner on Indianapolis, IN, Carrie Zoellner of Battle Creek, MI, Brian Claywell of Columbia, MO, Joel Goehler of St. Louis, MO, Benjamin Schisler and Emily Schisler of Creve Couer, MO, Katherine Enzenauer of San Jose, CA, and William Enzenauer of Denver, CO,; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Makayla Zoellner of Inianapolis, IN, and Haley Goehler of St. Louis, MO;and brother, Eugene Milzark of Florissant,MO. Mrs. Montrey was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, her brother, John and her sisters, Loretta and Elizabeth. Visitation will be held at HUTCHENS Mortuary, 675 Graham Rd., Florissant, MO., 63031-7099 (314-831-3100) on Friday, June 17, 2011, from 3-8pm. A Life Celebration will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 10:00am at the mortuary, immediatly followed by a brief graveside service at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Florissant. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in honor of LaVerne sent to Good Samaritan Hospice Care, 166 East Goodale Ave., Battle Creek, Michigan 49037. The family is deeply grateful to the organization for its support.
