Laura V. Bauer

Laura V. Bauer, 94, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Christian Northeast Hospital. Dear wife of 55 years to the late William Bauer; dear mother to Sandra (Bill) Girard, Karen (Bill) Moore, Joan (Rich) Kopp, Bill (Kate) Bauer, Jim (Karen) Bauer and Kim (Mark) Hulsizer; dear grandmother of 14; great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Laura was preceded in death by her brothers Vincent, James, Sidney and Louis Walsh and her sisters May Reagan, Adele Brueggman and Grace Schroeder. Our beloved mother Laura V Bauer passed peacefully in her home on July 1, 2015. She was born at home on the Walsh Family farm in Monroe County Illinois. Laura had seven brothers and sisters, Vincent, May, Adele, Grace, James, Sidney, and Louis. The Walsh motto was "Family First", emphasizing taking care and looking after each other. Something she taught us all through our lives. Thank you for that. The oldest brother Vincent was the teacher for the town's one room school. One thing Laura will always be remembered for is her quick and accurate answers to the multiplication tables. This sharpness never waivered in her lifetime. After her father passed away when she was nine, the family moved to St. Louis where Laura attended Holy Rosary Grade School. She met the love of her life, Bill Bauer, at the Casa Loma Ballroom. In fact, she stated to her best friend Kathleen, "I have a feeling I'm gonna meet my future husband tonight". That she did, and Bill never danced with another. Laura and Bill married June 21, 1940 and settled in Overland, raising six children Sandy, Karen, Joanie, Bill, Jim, and Kim, better known as "Kimmer". Bill was employed at McDonnell Aircraft; Laura, a full time homemaker. In 1968, they moved to Florissant with the last three children still at home. When they became empty nesters, Laura and Bill would go to the bingos and travel to Las Vegas as much as they could. As a mother and a grandmother, she was well known for her love of cards, teaching the grandkids rummy, poker, war, (Big Guns), and kings in the corner. She always carried a deck of cards in her purse just in case there was time for a quick game. When Bill passed in May 1995, Laura began taking mini trips to visit her daughters and their families in Texas, Arkansas, and Lake of the Ozarks. As time passed and home became much to large, she moved to Garden Villas North in Florissant, making new friends and memories with Marge, Gene, and Mary. She kept active at bingo, crafts and entertainment. On her last bingo session before being called home, mom shouted "bingo over here" on the coverall game. Now in heaven beside her husband and her entire family, I can hear her say, "Let the games begin!" We Love and miss you deeply Your kids, Sandy, Karen, Joanie, Bill, Jim, and Kim Bill and Laura have left a legacy of fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren with Vivienne Lynn due in October, and one great great-grandchild with Drake due any minute. Visitation Monday, July 6, 2015 at HUTCHENS Mortuary, 675 Graham Rd, Florissant. Funeral from Hutchens Mortuary 9:30 am Tuesday to St Sabina Catholic Church for a 10 am Mass. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Florissant MO. Masses or Charity of Choice
