Pitlyk, John J., Jr. Jack 95, passed Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Ann; dear father of Jayne (Jim) Hieger, Dan (Sally), Gerry (Ken) Xiques, Jackie (Dennis) Smith, Joe (Vicki), Bob (Jan), Mary (Mark) Scott, Tina (Jim) Higgins, Theresa Welsh; grandfather of 27, great-grandfather of 15; dear friend of Clara; dear brother and brother-in-law of Ed (Helen), Sister Joan CSJ, Rosemary, Dr. Paul (Nicole), James (Diane), Rose and Judy Pitlyk and Bob A. Wulff and the late Leonard, Thomas, Odell Rosel and Donna Wulff; uncle and good friend to many. Jack proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Throughout his long life of 95 years, he walked in parades on Veteran's Day wearing his uniform from the war. When he could no longer walk in the parade, he would dress in his uniform and sit proudly on the front porch of his home with the American flag flying behind him. In 2013 Jack was one of the World War II Veterans on the Honor Flight, traveling to Washington D.C. to see the memorial built in their honor. One of the last photos of Jack show him with a great smile on his face, sitting in his rocking chair with the American flag behind him. Jack's career as a painting contractor began in January 1943 when he worked with his father and his brother Leonard in the family's business, John J. Pitlyk & Sons. The company was established in 1918. After their father's death, Jack and Leonard continued to run the company until 1996. Jack was also a building contractor. Jack loved his faith; for many years he and his wife, Dorothy attended daily Mass and he often served at Mass. He was a weekly volunteer at Church bringing Communion to the homebound. Jack was active in his later years and as a member of a kitchen band he enjoyed going to nursing homes to entertain the residents. Jack played the base fiddle. Services: Funeral from Hutchens Mortuary & Cremation Center, Florissant 10 a.m. Mon. April 10 to St. Rose Philippine Duchesne for 10:30 a.m. Mass. Visitation 3-8 p.m. Sun. April 9. Interment J.B. National Cemetery. Memorials to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
