John Joseph Fisher

John "Joe" Fisher, 63, passed away on Tues., July 28, 2015, at DePaul Hospital. Dear husband of 44 years to Rita; dear father to John Joseph (Laura) Fisher Jr. and Andrew Alan (Tina Auer) Fisher; grandfather to Logan, Lily, Vivi and Kendall; dear brother to Janice Cloninger, Rachel Winchester, Wilma Jean Johns, Cathy Henson, the late Lee Fisher and Louise Boyd. .Husband, Father, astronomer, motorcycle enthusiast, golfer, teacher, mechanic, Papa. Born August 24th 1951 as John Joseph Fisher, known by everyone as Joe. He was a farm boy brought to the city. He fell in love with high school sweetheart Rita Doublin. They were married in Oct 23rd 1970. Soon after they had their first child John Joseph Fisher Jr in 1971. Joe joined the Marine Corps and ran through the ranks achieving many things including honor man from boot camp, military sharp shooter and electronics instructor. Shortly after Joe and Rita had a second son Andrew Alan Fisher. After being honorably discharged from the service, Joe and Rita moved back to the St Louis area in 1977. Joe started working for Sperry Univac as a computer repair technician using his military training to advance his career. When at home he was always doing things to entertain young Joey and Andy, whether it be cutting wooden guns out of old wood scraps for the boys, creating a teeter totter out of an old barrel and wood plank. Even building a go cart for the boys to have years of fun. Joe was always willing to show the boys how to work on the car teaching them the proper usage of curse words when a wrench would slip. He never gave up and always got the job done no matter how long it took. Over the years the boys grew up and moved to adulthood. Joe and Rita enjoyed getting out riding the motorcycle and playing golf. Joe just wished he could get the golf clubs in the saddle bags so he could enjoy two of his favorite things at once. Not long after Joey and Andy went into adulthood came Grandkids. If there is one thing Joe was put on this earth to do it was to be Papa. Joe first took on duties of watching grandson Logan and making sure he had a Hot Wheel in each hand at all times. Then along came the first Grand Daughter Lily and again Joe would take on duties as the daily care giver spoiling her to the fullest. Shortly behind Lily came little Vivi but Joey and his family had moved to Kentucky so Papa made sure he took every opportunity he could to road trip out to see the girls, again, spoiling the girls rotten. Lastly, Kendall came along, Papa made sure he had time to look after her and make it to every gymnastics practice. Joe always made sure the grandchildren were healthy, happy and spoiled rotten, not always in that order. Joe was always there for a family member in need and perfected the sloppy Joe.
