In 1953, John married the love of his life and best friend, Jeanne, who survives him. It's fitting that we begin with their marriage, because for Dad, the sun rose and set with Mom. For those lucky enough to have a front row seat, you witnessed a kind of love that very few people will ever experience. As Dad would say, "it's better to be lucky at love, than anything else." His love and spirit is also carried on through five surviving children: Kevin (Sharon) Dwyer, Kim (Ken) Lutz, Brian (Jane) Dwyer, Britt (Tammy) Dwyer and Tim (Shellee) Dwyer; three grandchildren: Kevin and Sharon's kids Sean Dwyer and Jessie Dwyer and Kim and Ken's son Nathan Lutz, and extended family of relations and friends - too many to list, but not forgotten. There is also a long-awaited reunion with his son Craig Dwyer - a kindred spirit who preceded him in death - and Dad assures us he will give Craig a big hug from Mom and the rest of the family. During his days at St. Louis University High, Dad excelled at athletics and later took pride in his service during the Korean conflict, serving as a military police officer. He had a life-long love affair with everything Irish, VO and sweet soda (tall or in a fish bowl), mashed potatoes, a good cut of meat and pineapple upside down cake. Although sometimes self-deprecating, Dad was a voracious reader and tireless researcher. He and Mom traveled the world, but more recently, the internet was a key portal that helped satisfy his limitless curiosity. Dad passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his home with Mom by his side. God did not have to pull, nor did he need a shove. Dad did it on his terms, which is not surprising because that's the way he lived every other day of his life too. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate John's life in their own way, but raising a glass of their favorite drink would be most appropriate. In lieu of flowers, John hopes you will perform a random act of kindness - preferably something with a little 'democratic' flair - for someone less fortunate; not for the credit or notoriety, but simply because it's the right thing to do. In keeping with John's wishes, all services will be private.
