Irvin A. Meyer

Meyer, Irvin A. of Florissant, at the age of 79, passed peacefully in his home with his children at his bedside. He was born on February 2, 1934 to Harry and Margaret (Heidotten) and was one of seven children. He has lived in Old Towne Florissant his entire life and attended McBride High School. He proudly served in the Army where he was able to travel to Germany, Denmark, and Paris among other places. Upon returning home, he met and married his wife, Patricia Ann (Conboy). On their one-year wedding anniversary, they moved into their home on St. Denis St., two blocks from the house Irv was born and raised in. Here, they raised their three children, Mike, Debbie, and Greg. Irv and Pat enjoyed spending time at their clubhouse on the Mississippi River and taking the family out on the boat and up to the sand island. In 1987, Irv gave Pat her dream kitchen by adding an addition to the house that also included a massive family room, deck, and garage. It was in this vaulted-ceilinged family room with a fire burning in the brick fireplace he designed, where Irv spent his final weeks, surrounded by family and friends. Loving and devoted son to the late Harry and Margaret (Heidotten) Meyer and son-in-law to the late William and Naomi Conboy; dear dad to Mike, Debbie (Greiner), and Greg (Kate) Meyer; loving and proud papa to Ryan (Susie) Meyer, Megan (Josh) Guffey, Karissa Meyer, and Alyssa, AJ, and Lil Greg Meyer; doting great papa to Camryn, Rylee, Peyton, and River (Cold Water Creek); dear brother to the late Rita Moellering, Brother Melvin Meyer, Gilbert (Betty) Meyer, the late Joan Price, Elsie (Guy) Pondrom, and Audi (Larry) Smith; and loving brother-in-law to Barbara (Jerry) Hogan and Georgianna Conboy. Our dear uncle, great uncle, and special friend to many always had a smile on his face … unless you took away his cigarettes. Irv will forever be remembered for his eclectic food palette, never able to attend a barbecue without his grape jelly in hand and always having a supply of snackiepoos on hand. In his later years, Irv enjoyed golfing and taking his cruiser out on the river. He got a kick out of spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, rooting on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and arguing with his best buddy, Greg. Irv always said he was unsuccessful, but anyone who ever met him would beg to differ. He was, in a word, amazing. Not how did he die, but how did he live? Not what did he gain, but what did he give? These are the units to measure the worth Of a man as a man, regardless of birth. Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed? But had he befriended those really in need? Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer, ?To bring back a smile, to banish a tear? Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say, But how many were sorry when he passed away.
