The Honorable John B. Gray, Sr. died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the age of 86. John is survived by his wife of 63 years Theresa Gray (nee Sandweg) and his eight children: Joan Gray, Mary (Jim) Vetter, Anne (Paul) Heine, Barbara (Rick) Wilson, John (Becki) Gray, Jr., Kitty Gray , Thomas (Robyn) Gray and Frances Gray and twelve grandchildren: Jack (Joan) Stephens, Megan (Joey Harper) Stephens, Christin (Dennis) Bujnak, Kate (Michael) Elliott, Kurt Heine, Patti (Cole) White, Theresa, Colleen, Michael, Lauren, Kelly and Bridget Gray and great-granddaughter Molly Stephens. John is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Virginia Gray (nee Reilly) and eight special "Toledo Gray" nieces and nephews and life-long friend, Elsie Lee Glickert. On his wife Theresa's side he is survived by Jane Sandweg (nee Dunn), Rosemarie Sandweg (nee Jackson), Oliver Dulle, Marilyn Sandweg (nee McDermott), Francis and Judy (nee Tempe) Sandweg and his many Sandweg family nieces and nephews. He was born in St. Louis, MO on September 18, 1923, the second son of James F. Gray and Mary Ann (Boyle) Gray. He was baptized in the Hope of Christ's Resurrection and received the sacrament of Healing and Reconciliation from his nephew Fr. James C. Gray. On March 5th 2010 he passed from this life to eternal life with Jesus where he was reunited with his brothers Bro. James F. Gray, S.M. and Edward W. Gray. John graduated with honors from St. Louis University Law School in 1948 and was a practicing attorney until his recent illness. John served as a circuit court judge, municipal court judge and was the city attorney for Woodson terrace until his death. He was a devoted Catholic and long time member of the Florissant Rotary Club and Norwood's Hills Country Club. John will be remembered for the daily rosary; making sure that his children and grandchildren always "do the right thing"; and his "Kid of the Week" crisp dollar bills. Services: Procession from Hutchens Mortuary, 675 Graham Rd. Florissant, Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:15 a.m. to St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Church, 2650 Parker Road, Florissant, MO 63033 for a 12:00 PM Mass. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will immediately follow the mass. Visitation on Sunday March 7 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM.
