Dorothy Jeanis

Dorothy E. Jeanis, 92, passed away on December 8, 2015 at DePaul Hospital. Dear wife of the late Robert Jeanis;dear mother of Marilyn Moonen, Paul E. Jeanis and Robert A. (Teresa) Jeanis; grandmother to Lori Mills, Monica Jeanis, Jason Jeanis, Jessica Olendorff, Jillian Jeanis, Audrey Jeanis, Hannah Jeanis, Cole Jeanis and the late Shawn Jeanis; great grandmother to Joey, Jamie, Jacob, Kate, Robby, Kelsey, Jeffery and Madison; great-great grandmother to Payton, Sam and Jack; dear sister to Esther Schlafer. Dorothy was born on April 7, 1923, one of twelve children born to Esther and William Anderson. Born at home, as a young child she lived in a log cabin. After moving to a larger home with a barn, the family sold milk to Pevely Dairy in St. Louis. While her family was not wealthy, Dorothy often said that they were rich in all the ways that counted. She was a good student, excelling in spelling bees and writing contests. As it was Dorothy's dream to be a teacher, she lived with a family in town so she could attend High School. After completing two years of training, she began teaching-her first assignment was in a one room country school. Dorothy met her husband, Robert Jeanis, while attending college in Springfield where he was posted in the military. They later married and had three children, Marilyn Moonen, Robert and Paul. After the war, they made their first home in Jefferson Barracks. Eventually they settled in Florissant, where Dorothy resided over 50 years. While raising the family and teaching full-time, Dorothy continued her education, completing her bachelor's degree and later receiving her Masters degree at Washington University. She taught for many years at Russell School in the Hazelwood School District, she was greatly missed upon her retirement. Dorothy loved to read and garden, but her main pleasure came from her family. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great grandkids; loving and supporting the large and growing extended family. Dorothy was kind, generous, and remained fiercely independent throughout her life. Dorothy led a long and full life, making the most of her 92 years, and believed in sharing the blessings she had received. On December 8, 2015 she was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, and all of her family and friends waiting for her in the light. She will be remembered and missed by many. Visitation will be Friday, December 11 at HUTCHENS Mortuary, 675 Graham Road, Florissant MO from 3:30pm to 7pm, with a service at 7pm at Hutchens. Graveside service will be Saturday, December 12 at 11am at Rock Hill Cemetery, Stanton MO Memorials may be made to Rock Hill Cemetery, c/o Marilyn Moonen or Disabled American Veterans.
