Evelyn Wilcox

Evelyn Mary Wilcox, 93, born Jan 9, 1923 to loving parents, Harry and Agnes Lutenegger in Burlington Iowa. Graduated from St. Mary's High School in Burlington IA in 1939. Soon after , she fell in love with a WWII pilot from Burlington, Ralph Eads. They were married for 17 years and had 5 five wonderful children, Ronald, Connie, Steve, Mark and Mary. Ralph tragically died in a car accident in 1959. Evelyn met her future husband, Robert Wilcox, during a visit at the Social Security office. Soon after, this amazing man married Evelyn knowing full well what he was getting himself into with 5 rowdy step-children. Robert and Evelyn had 2 more children, Gail and Scott. Unfortunately, in 1979, Gail passed away in her sleep at the tender age of 16. Evelyn always said the first thing she would do when she got to heaven was to ask the Lord why he took her beautiful daughter so early. Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Rons Eads, Connie Manion, Steve (Nancy) Eads, Mark Eads, Mary (Darryl) Martin, R. Scott (Cynthia) Wilcox and the late Gail Leah Wilcox; loving grandmother of Billy Barker, Tony Eads, Amy Woodcock, Melissa Parker, Brian Eads, Adam Eads, Trisha Brennen, Michelle Barclay, Michael Steiner, Eric Steiner; 6 step grandchildren and 18 great-grandchaildren; dear sister of late Florence Bohlen; aunt, cousin and friend to many. Evelyn was voracious reader, and averaged 2 books a week for the last 20 years or so. Her other hobbies included square dancing, playing cards, gambling, bird watching and traveling. Evelyn and Robert, notorious "Snow Birds" spent the majority of the winters over the last 20 years in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Evelyn took all her children to Aruba to celebrate her 90th birthday. She was so appreciative of her family, whenever they would do anything, from simple tasks like taking her to the grocery store, to painting her bedroom, she would always express her gratitude. Evelyn saw the best in everybody. She made every individual person that she came in contact with feel as though they were the center of her world. A running joke in the family is to claim that you are the favorite child, grandchild or great-grandchild. When in reality, Evelyn loved each and every one of her family as much as anyone had ever loved another person. Evelyn also had a large circle of forever friends whom she made countless memories with. These friends are scattered all throughout the world, and some she will be joining in the Kingdom of Heaven. One of Evelyn's last wishes was to take a horse drawn carriage ride. Unfortunately, she was not able to make this wish come true in her life, but her last ride will be with a horse drawn carriage to Sacred Heart Cemetery. Evelyn lived a long, love filled life, and will be greatly missed by her friends and family. We are all better for having known Evelyn. Visitation at HUTCHENS Mortuary, 675 Graham Rd, Florissant MO, Fri, Jan 29 at 4-8 pm, Funeral from the Hutchens Mortuary, Sat at 9:15 to St. Martin de Porres Church, 615 Dunn Rd., Hazelwood MO, for 10 AM Mass.
